Winner of Emirates Business Women Award (EBWA) for 2008

In a statement printed on the Filipino Digerati Association website (http://pinoydigerati.org/index.html) Al Mahdi, said "we dream of having the best Filipino learners today spearheading the nation's economic development in the future for both UAE and Philippines armed with the right tools, skills and knowledge that would enable them to become enormous-globally competitive."

She said the first step in developing young Filipino minds is through effective and sustainable use of free computer training.

"Lifting the morale and lives of my kababayan (fellow countrymen) has always been embedded in my heart, and I will never fail them as I strongly believe that Filipinos have world-class talents and intelligence and the highest degree of professionalism," Al Mahdi said.

With this in mind, Al Mahdi got Geoscience Testing Laboratory in Dubai, the company for which she is Chief Executive Officer, to support the efforts of Filipino Digerati Association.

Because of Al Mahdi, Pinays in Dubai are no longer just domestic helpers. She received the first runner up award in the EBWA Professional Category from Dubai ruler Shaikh Saeed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Aside from being the first Fil?ipino to receive such a prestigious honor in the UAE, Al Mahdi was among the eight winners of the EBWA.

She is married to an Emirati and holds a Masters in Quality Management from the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) and Masters in Engineering Systems Management from the American University of Sharjah.

Furthermore, Al Mahdi is a certified ISO lead auditor, a dedicated certified trainer and one of the founders of the Filipino Digerati Association that assists Philippine emissaries in Dubai to train Filipinos in computer applications for free in the UAE.

Al Mahdi said she started in the Emirates as a chemist, but today the CEO of Geoscience, a multi-disciplined testing laboratory owned by business tycoon Abdul Lateef Abdullah Ali Gargawi. Geoscience is now located in four emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The recognition she received from the EBWA has fanned her desire to study further for a doctorate and professionally widen her vision to give her company a regional presence.

"With my strong will, faith in our creator, determination and strength, I've achieved a lot of wonderful things and I am very much successful," she said.

The lone Filipina EBWA winner added, "the main reason for the success is my leadership and vision, plus the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. To me emotional quotient (EQ) is working hand-in-hand with intelligence quotient (IQ)."
